What ElevenLabs does across its platform
A voice check when a clone is made. ElevenLabs says both of its cloning methods (Instant and Professional) include a voice verification step. It's a "voice captcha" that checks that the person providing the samples is the person actually speaking. For its Professional clones, you read verification lines live into your microphone and they're compared to your training audio. A Professional clone can only be made from your own voice, even if someone else gives permission.
An honest limit on that check. ElevenLabs is upfront that verification can't guarantee a recording truly belongs to the person uploading it. It shows the person was present and taking part. That's why the next layers matter.
Blocked voices. ElevenLabs runs a "no-go voices" safeguard that detects and blocks clones of prominent public figures and other high-risk voices.
A watermark on the audio. ElevenLabs embeds an inaudible digital watermark in the audio it generates. Its Audio Detector and AI Speech Classifier let anyone with an ElevenLabs account check whether a clip came from ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs also states that all audio its models generate can be traced back to the account responsible for it.
Rules with teeth. ElevenLabs screens customers at sign-up and monitors for violations of its Prohibited Use Policy with automated classifiers, human reviewers and internal investigations. Enforcement runs from warnings and voice removal to account bans, and ElevenLabs refers criminal activity to law enforcement. Anyone who believes their voice was used without consent can file an Unauthorized Use of Voice report with ElevenLabs.
